CV

Selena Unger is a multidisciplinary artist living and working on the unceded traditional territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. She began her formal education in Fine Arts at the Univeristy of British Columbia and completed a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts and Psychology at Vancouver Island University in 2022. Her studies at VIU were heavily focused in ceramics and in 2022 she had the honour of receiving the university’s Ceramic Faculty Award.

After completing her degree she spent a summer learning from potter Ute Dreist, who specializes in wood-firing and raku firing ceramics, as well as processing clay from raw materials. Subsequently, she participated in artist residencies in Denmark (2022) at the Kirtsen Kjær Museum, and in Iceland (2023) at the Fish Factory Creative Centre of Stöðvarfjörður.

Since 2023, she has been a part-time Pottery Instructor and Ceramic Technician for the City of Nanaimo, teaching people of all ages and skill levels how to make pottery and to sculpt with clay.

While ceramic art has been her predominant area of focus since 2019, she also employs various mediums such as, papier-mâché, textiles, paint, pencil, sound and movement.
